Healthy Nadia's Brownies

Monday, 15 February 2016

I haven't done a recipe post in a while!

I've been "Clean Living" this year. I've basically only been putting good things into my body. No alcohol, no dairy (which our stomachs aren't designed to process), no caffeine and only eating natural food.

I didn't want this to be a fad diet of January though and to go back to naughty refined food in February so I allow myself one cheat day a week when I can have a drink.

And I've actually noticed on my cheat day that I'm not craving anything naughty food wise...just alcohol!

I met a girl called Nadia when I was away skiing and she's a fitness blogger so I've been reading her blog and noticed last week she posted a recipe for Chickpea Blondies

I've never even heard of using chickpeas in healthy style brownies so I knew I had to try it!

Check Nadia's blog out here, she is great motivation for being healthy but in a sustainable way!

These are so easy... just four ingredients!

Chickpeas
Peanut Butter
A Banana
and honey or agave nectar if you're a fancy pants like me!

To make mine more "brownies" rather than "blondies" I added the following

Raw Cacao and Chocolate Protein Powder
I also amended the amounts slightly...

Pre heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius

Then rinse and dry your chickpeas
Make sure you rinse them properly!

Now in a food processor or similar blend the chickpeas
If you use a nutribullet its a little tedious but does work!

Just use the flat blade and do them a handful at a time.

Once they're processed pop them in a bowl...I used a saucepan, not sure why!

Add your banana to the chickpeas and mash it up with a fork

Add 2 tbsp of Peanut Butter

Then squeeze in a tbsp of honey or agave

Once you've mixed that in you can add the optional chocolate items!

I used a tbsp of chocolate protein powder and a tbsp of raw cacao

And mixed it up!

That's how easy it is!

Line a tray with greasproof paper and if your tin is too big you can fold over some foil and make it smaller... I always do that!

Bake for 15 mins....

Then cut into 9!

There you have it! Chickpea brownies

I've been taking one to work everyday for my afternoon snack, warming it up in the microwave and putting a little extra peanut butter on top!

I worked out the calorie content of these:

Only 86 calories each ... and those are good calories!
