Living for YOU - Advice on Getting Over a BreakUp

Friday, 29 January 2016

Happy New Year to you all.

I know we're at the end of January, but I've been thinking about doing this kind of New Years' Resolution post and I think now is the time.

I put this status update on Facebook on New Year's Eve:

This year has been the best of my whole life! Committing to myself for a year rather than a man has made me appreciate my life so much more. It's been my year of travel - Brazil Argentina Vegas Malta Barcelona Turkey Poland Paris and now Courchevel. I've been so lucky this year and hope you all have been too - tomorrow is a fresh start, so if this hasn't been your year next year will be! Happy New Years from me to you!

I actually had a few people message me on fb and ask me questions about how I got over my ex and how I had a year just for myself.

I was surprised but actually really appreciated that people came to me for advice. Makeup blogging is all very well but if I can help someone it makes it so much better!

I don't really want to focus this on my ex...because why would I want to waste time thinking about him! But I'm afraid it might a little bit.

Spend time with those you love
I broke up with him over Christmas (two years ago now!)...so the first thing I did was spend time with the people I loved. Even if I was crying and miserable, it was better to do that on the shoulder of my friends and family than on my own in my room feeling sorry for myself.

Get him out of your system
You always have the question in your brain of "if I'd tried harder would we still be together" or "would it work if I tried again". This probably isn't advisable, but I went back about six months after we broke up. And although this delayed the process of getting over him, it meant that when we broke up again I knew for sure that there was definitely no point trying again...as I'd already tried again!

Give it your all, try and make something work. But at the end of the day you know whether someone is the one for you or not. Even if on the surface you convince yourself they could be...deep down you will know. Someone who is The One for you won't treat you like sh!t. I'm sure there are a few exceptions...but most of the time, the person who you're meant to be with won't treat you badly.

SO to conclude...work out in your brain whether the person you're with is the one. And if they're not then come to terms with it. You might cry yourself to sleep for months...but better that than being stuck with them making you miserable and wasting time on it.

Get out of your comfort zone
This can be in a number of ways... I tried a couple.

Living
I bought a flat in London...when I'd been planning to buy a house with him. This gave me my independence, got me back into the city I loved and actually gave myself confidence that I don't need a man financially to live the life I want. Now this is extreme and I know I'm very lucky and many people can't just casually buy a flat. What I mean is, if you're living at home maybe see if you can move in with friends, or if you're living with him then there will obviously need to be a change.

Travel
Another, potentially easier way, to get out of your comfort zone is to take a trip. This can be the trip of a lifetime...or it can be a casual girls holiday with a friend. Even if its a weekend away in England with a friend or exploring a new part of the UK alone it will help.

I booked a trip to Brazil...on my own... in January with a departure date in February! So mine was quite last minute and wild. But that's just me. Whereever you go you are putting yourself in new surroundings and having new experiences and making new memories!
A holiday makes everything seem better.

Even though it might seem too much to some people I really do think going away alone was what I needed. I went somewhere I've always wanted to go...had plenty of time for just me to think about the life I wanted when I got home, but was also pushed out of my comfort zone in the sense that I had to make friends.
If you're interested, the travel agent people I used was gadventures

Become a Yesman
Even though for a while I had a desire to sit in with a bottle of wine and cry on my own...I tried my hardest to say Yes to all the plans my friends suggested. Even if I didn't feel like it and it meant getting the tube all the way East or North I tried my hardest to go...and I have some really great memories of occasions when I did something I didn't feel like...but had a great time!

Make Plans
Even though I'm totally over my ex now...and I'm not just saying that, I actually am...this is still something I do - Make Plans.

I think probably any single person does this..but I make plans weeks in advance. I book up my diary with Sunday plans with friends I haven't seen for ages, or mid week dinners after work with my friends who commute out of london and I don't get to see as much.

If I have a diary booked up in advance it means that I don't get to Friday and go "Oh God, what am I going to do this weekend!?" I usually always have plans which makes dating quite hard actually! If I meet someone I like and they say what are you doing this weekend, I usually have plans.

Hobbies
When I was in a relationship I didn't really have any hobbies that I did alone. Most of my weekends were spent with him as were a few evenings a week so I didn't do anything just for me.

So I did one of the best things I've ever done! I started Salsa. I've been doing it two years now and I can't get over my love for it. I might not go out dancing every weekend like some of my really dedicated salsa friends but that doesn't mean I don't love it. My teacher is incredible and he really has pushed me to improve. There were times when I thought a doublespin was the hardest thing in the world and now I'm confident triple spinning numerous times. If you're interested my teacher is called Super Mario and you can find him here

I also started my blog! I kind of thought noone would be interested in what I had to say...but at the start I actually didn't really care about how many views or comments I got. It was more of a creative outlet to blog about funny dating stories I was having now that I'd started dating again. It's progressed into something I love doing and I love making time for. If you're reading this, thank you for taking the time! I hope something of what I write appeals to you and you carry on enjoying what I have to say!

Dating
I probably got into this a bit too soon after my breakup...woops! I think we broke up on the Monday...and the following Thursday I had my first date! My friend made me download Tinder, I was loving the swiping and I figured why not go on a date. In fact it was quite bad because I broke all the dating rules, acted really coupley with him, got drunk...and cried. Not good...but he asked me on a second date so it can't have been that bad.

I then realised that I needed to wait a bit so I toned down my swiping.

To be honest, maybe looking back I started dating too soon...but it made me feel so much better about myself. To have guys match with me and know they thought I looked halfway decent (when my ex told me on a few occasions that I was overweight...cheers!) was such a confidence boost. So I've been on a few dates over these two years. Some have been successful, some haven't...but none of them have really gone further than one, two or three dates.
In fact I kind of acted like a guy. I knew I needed to be single so I went on one or two dates but didn't let my guard down enough to let anyone in. Its got to be someone special for me to do that.

And just to note...that special guy will not get blogged about! Its all very well to blog about funny dates I've been on or awful guys who stood me up...but blogging about someone I like I just think is too far!

Living for me
I guess the final thing to end on is that, yes it took me a little while to get over my ex...and all the stuff above helped me massively. But the main thing that really changed in my life and the main thing that has made me a happier better person now is I just started living for me.

I did whatever I wanted without having to think about someone else - and that is what has made me the happiest I've ever been. Now when I let someone into my life again I'm going to keep that up. I'm not going to compromise my life and be miserable for someone else's happiness. I'm going to make sure we both enhance each others lives...because that's what a relationship is really about!

I hope the above was helpful. If you're going through a horrible breakup I really do understand. Just stay strong and focus on the good things. Easier said than done but just live for you!

My birthday weekend - The Railway Children and LumiereLDN

Thursday, 28 January 2016

I had the best birthday weekend celebrating with my favourite people so I thought I'd let you know what I did as it was kind of a three day affair!

On Friday which was the day before my friend Alice took me out to lunch at one of my favourite restaurants Randall & Aubin and after a few too many proseccos I headed home to mine to get ready!

My best friends Katie and Jess (check out her blog here) came over...then my flatmate Louisa came home...and we all got ready to go out!

Here's the makeup look I did - the blog on this is here if you're interested

We went to Northcote Records where I'd booked an area and nearly all of my favourite people managed to make it!

It was so nice to have my home friends, work friends, salsa friends, family etc all together!

I had planned to do a dinner for about 10 people but actually going out and not having to pick and choose was so much nicer!

At midnight everyone sung me happy birthday and I felt so loved and just a tiny bit drunk that I called it a night!

I'm an old lady now - 26 - so half 12 is more than late enough for me!

The next morning I woke up with a headache but no real hangover ready to hit the shops with my bestie Jess.

We got our glam on...duh its my birthday...and then headed out into the very cold sunshine
Hence the fur and sunglasses

I was so pleased it was sunny :)

Merlin even put on his bowtie just for my birthday!

We headed to The Diner near Carnaby Street for brunch and I had a definite cheat meal! Pancakes, bacon and eggs with an iced coffee with real dairy milk!

So rebellious!

Our next stop was Topshop on Oxford Street where I went downstairs to get my Front Helix pierced

I was unusually nervous, but it actually hurt the least out of all of the piercings I've had! The girl at Metal Morphosis (which is the place downstairs in Topshop) was so good and she did it with very little pain.

I think it looks SO cool! I think its my favourite, its much more subtle than my regular Helix which I had done in the summer.

Whilst in Topshop I also bought these new Quay My Girl sunnies! I've actually done a blog on what I bought myself for my birthday so stay tuned!

In Selfridges we picked up cupcakes from Lola's Cupcakes
Top to bottom - Coconut, Hazelnut Chocolate, Red Velvet, Salted Caramel, Peanut Butter

We took these home once we'd finished shopping as my parents came over and Louisa came home for tea and cake.

I had the coconut one and it was super delicious! They always are whatever flavour you get!

That evening after we'd had cake and presents we got dressed up ready for dinner!

My parents took me and Jess to Langan's

Its such an old school fish restaurant and I love it

I obviously had fish - the pan friend cod

And then - although I was stuffed - the waiters brought me sweet treats for my birthday!

Jess and I thought about going clubbing afterwards...but instead with full tummies we put on our silk pjs and pretty much went straight to sleep when we got home!

The next day (Sunday) Jess and I had planned a cultural day...

We obviously got our glam on again

And we headed to Kings Cross to go and see the Railway Children.

We got tickets for £25 each and they were in the third row! That's pretty darn reasonable for London!

The play was really good - its a pop up theatre over the railway track so a real steam train comes through the centre.

It is a little cold though so take a jacket...plus we thought it was a musical...it isn't!

Once the show had finished we went outside to see the Lumiere had lit up London!

Lumiere was a three day light installation which literally lit up London.

It was so cool to see part of it, especially as it was on for such a short time!

We took the obligatory OOTD's ... well we are bloggers after all

And then headed into the warmth to go to Platform 9 3/4

To see the Alan Rickman / Snape memorial

So sad :(

#always

To cheer me up I played with an owl who looked like me in my coat!

Then it was time for a brief dinner at Wagamamas and home...

A very busy weekend and the BEST birthday weekend I've ever had!

Get Ready With Me - My 26th Birthday

Monday, 25 January 2016

The 16th January was my birthday :) and so on Friday 15th I organised a night out with my faves!

We went to Northcote Records in Clapham and here's the makeup look I went for!

Starting bare face and fresh!
Although not actually that fresh as I'd had champy at lunch!

For my eyemakeup I used my new MakeUp Geek Eyeshadows!
Creme Brule in the crease

And Grandstand on the lid

I used tape to ensure I got a crisp line

And then added liner and You Complete Me Velour Lashes

Now to sort out the difference in colour between my neck (fake tanned) and my face (not fake tanned)

I used my EX1 foundation in F200 which is my faketan shade :)

And yes I'm aware I look yellow...I didn't in real life and you can see it matches my chest

Time for contour highlight and lips which are Kat Von D Lolita

And I was ready to go outout

My besties got involved

And time to go!

I took all these photos with my new Sony A5100 camera. I bought it for myself for my birthday and its amazingggg. It's the one Desi Perkins has which is why I got it, and it has a selfie screen - what could be better!

Do you recommend any other MakeUp Geek shadows? I'm so impressed with the formulation and need to try more!

Topshop and Boots Mini Haul

Thursday, 21 January 2016

The weekend of the 9th was my first back in London so I had a pretty chilled one which was needed after the hecticness of Christmas.

Plus I'm doing Clean Living for January and I find I eat less if I don't have plans. That sounds really sad...but its true!

To entertain myself I went shopping so I thought I'd show you some of the bits I got!

(Maybe I've replaced an addiction to sugar, caffeine and alcohol with shopping!)

Let's start with makeup and accessories...

I'm going to Costa Rica next month...so I needed some new sunglasses...

Needed is a strong word - I don't neeeedd any of this stuff!

Wanted new sunglasses.

These are the Quay Amanda and they are sooo beautiful!

I love Quay glasses!

Mirrored glasses are the best as noone can see your eyes...but they're very hard to photograph without getting your arm in the pic!

See below...

Another very exciting purchase is the EX1 F100 foundation.

I already have it in F200 which as you can see I've used nearly half of

The F200 is perfect for when I have a tan but I wanted the lighter one for when I'm not tanned.

It is suchhhh a good foundation and is for people with olive undertones so it works perfectly on me. It isn't matte it just looks like healthy skin

IN LOVE! Never want another foundation again and that really is saying something!
You can buy it from Topshop on Oxford Street or Online

The next thing is this Matte Ink Eyeliner from Maybelline.
It goes on really well, but I actually noticed today after wearing it 8 hours its smudged onto my eyelid :( so maybe its just one for a night out or needs to be set with black eyeshadow.

The final makeup item is this Maybelline setting spray (left hand side)

I've wondered for a while why makeup brands make setting sprays for the US but not the UK but now L'Oreal and Maybelline have brought them to England!

As you can see I have a few setting sprays and I think the following:

Maybelline - shake it really well as otherwise you get white dots on your face - not ideal but works well if shaken.
Make up Academy Pro-Base - I wouldn't recommend this it sprays out so much that you get a really really wet face...not a good nozzle
L'Oreal Infallible (this is the US packaging but I assume the formula is the same) - this one is my favourite and I've nearly finished it WAH!
KIKO Face Makeup Fixer - this is the only aerosol and it is really alcoholy! Like it smells of alcohol which isn't pleasant but you're face doesn't get wet which is good.

Moving onto fashion - something I'm not very good at!

I bought three things from Topshop:

These Jamie ripped jeans which I'm obsessed with! I never wear lighter jeans but I love these!

This Topshop body which has a high neck (very unlike me) but a bar across the back which makes it a bit more interesting

I wore these together on Saturday and actually really liked how it looked

Got to at least try to be demure now I'm 26!

Finally I got this waterfall jacket from downstairs in Oxford Street Topshop

It looks like nothing special but it is a really nice shape

I got a 12 because they didn't have a 10 but I like that its a bit bigger

Its from the brand Jovonna and is kind of shaped like a short mac when it is tied up by drapes really nicely untied.

Hard to describe...but I like it!

Have you treated yourself to anything in the January sales? Add the links to your haul blogs below and I'll check them out.

Just to clarify the only thing actually in the sale was the jacket...I'm a bad sale shopper!

2015 Beauty Favourites

Sunday, 17 January 2016

Instead of a December Favourites... I'm going to do my yearly favourites!

I've tried to cut these down as there are so many products I love but its quite hard.

Some of these products I've used all year, and some I've only just discovered but they top all the others I've used this year!

Let's get started as this might be a long one!

I'm going to do this in terms of what goes on my face first.

So let's start with Primer

I feel this is a dupe for the Smashbox Photofinish one that was in my favourites last year. It is the same texture and I feel it does mattify me.

It isn't a holy grail as by the end of the day my nose is still oily, but I think I've found a new one that might be holy grail. I discovered it in 2016 though so stay tuned for a review!

These are definitely my two favourite foundations of the year.

The L'Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte in the colour Sand which matches me perfectly when I'm not fake tanned. It goes on smoothly with either a beauty blender or brush and I do find it keeps me matte, I just add on extra highlight so my face doesn't look flat.

The second is the EX1 Invisiwear in F200 this has a more dewy finish and I just love it. It makes me look healthy and the colour is perfect for when I fake tan. I think I might buy it in EX100 to hope it matches me un fake tanned... I just love the finish

This is always my holy grail. Its the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard.
It is a bit thicker than some of my other concealers and blends out like a dream!

I warn you me saying I love all these products might get repetitive, but they're my 2015 favourites so I can't help it!

This is obviously a favourite as I've hit pan massively!!

Its the Banana Powder from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

I use it for setting under my eyes and it instantly brightens that area. I've used loose powders to bake under my eyes before, but I always get a flash back in flash photography - does anyone else get that? I've tried the NYX loose powder and the NARS one!

My favourite contour powder is also in this Z Palette (that I LOVE and got for Christmas from my brother and his wife)
Is the colour Fawn from Anastasia Beverly Hills. It has that perfect grey undertone and blends out so well.
I recently got Hoola from Benefit as it is a similar tone, but it just doesn't blend out as well as this.

My favourite face setting powder is the L'Oreal True Match in W3 golden beige.
It doesn't look anything special, but it sets my foundation, adds a bit of extra coverage and I've even used it as a powder foundation before with nothing under it

Highlighting has definitely been the trend of the year.

Especially as I've been on so many holidays so have been tanned for quite a bit of the year.
Nothing goes better than a tan than a glow.

I've picked two:

A golden undertone one which is the Seventeen Instant Glow (full blog on how good this is here) and then a champagne undertoned one which is the Kiko 208 (full review on this here
I really upset myself by cracking my Kiko one as I was doing this blog!

My favourite blush is the NARS Orgasm. Again though I've actually found one I prefer in the first few days of January. That's what happens when you get to play with your Christmas presents! Stay tuned.
This blush has a bit of a glow to it so just makes you look really healthy and glowy and like you've gone on a run but your makeup has stayed in tact!

Now for eyes and brows.

I never thought I'd say I love a mascara more than my L'Oreal Telescopic but this NARS Audacious Mascara is the bomb (do people still say that) - it separates lengthens and isn't too wet. I know that sounds weird but L'Oreal Telescopic sometimes transferred below my eyes as it takes a while to dry.

Also here is my L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper. I've had this a year...and it is still going strong as you only need a tiny bit. It sets your brows in place and gives a bit of colour, so its great for no makeup days.

This Autumn I've gone back to my MAC Spiked Eyebrow Pencil and I forgot how much I love it. It is a much quicker option than the Anastasia Dip Brow, but I do still use that on nights out.

Now for lashes - I've used these so they look a bit grubby!

They're really wispy and thicker at the outer corners so they look a bit feline. I like that they aren't took thick as it means you can still see your eyeshadow

I have a lot of eyeshadows...and I've loved a lot, but the product that's stood out for me this year is the Kiko Long Lasting Shadow Stick in the colour 06 - these are AMAZING - go buy one you won't regret it, they blend like a dreammmm

Finally onto lips - I have a bit of a thing for lipstick so I have a serious amount.

Narrowing it down to one red and one nude was harddd

The red is the Rimmel Provocalips in Play With Fire. This is a beautiful deep red with serious staying power!

And my favourite lipstick of all time issss...the NARS Audacious lipstick in Anita

This colour and formulation is perfection!

DONE!

What were your favourite products of 2015? Let me know ... in case you didn't realise I like to buy new makeup!
