Favourite Beauty Products of 2014

Saturday, 3 January 2015

I haven't really got into doing monthly favourites...I mean to but I never get round to it and I'm quite set in my ways in terms of what I like.

However, a yearly favourites is something I can definitely do. I feel like my makeup routine has changed a lot over the past year and I've invested in some amazing makeup items.

Definitely an investment - screw equities and bonds.

That's a lie I don't believe that....although I don't think its the time to be investing in bonds right now, I'm more about bluechip equities...but lets leave my investment advice for another time!!

And get back to the real thing I invest in....makeup :)

Primer
I've tried quite a few primers this year including the Maybelline Baby Skin , Benefit's Porefessional and the Laura Mercier Primer.

My favourite is the Smashbox Photo Finish primer

The Laura Mericer one is lovely but it feels like you are just applying a moisturiser.
The Smashbox one feels like a traditional primer (a bit siliconey) and I feel like it actually works really well.

I would really like to try a primer which specifically targets mattifying. I've noticed recently that by the end of the day my nose and forehead are a bit shiney. Which is odd as I used to have quite a dry forehead but heyho!
If anyone knows a good one please comment below and let me know!

Foundation
My favourite foundation of the year is the L'Oreal Infallible 24 Hour - I use the colour 140.

It provides really good coverage, glides on and lasts (not for 24 hours but it does last the night)

I like it but it isn't my holy grail - something holy grail would be something I can't live without.

Yesterday I picked up the EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation in the colour F200.

They only do 5 shades and they are aimed at people with olive skin and a yellow undertone.
I'm yet to try it but I have heard amazingggg things so I'm excited!

Concealer
This is an obvious one for me...total holy grail is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in the colour custard.

It is easy to work with, blendable and doesn't settle into under eye creases.
I think I would also like to get it in one shade up to highlight with so I might have to treat myself!

Powder
For my under eyes the Anastasia Beverly Hills powder in the colour banana is definitely the one.

It brightens and doesn't bounce back in flash photos (which we all know I've had a problem with before and it is nottttt pretty)

I haven't ever powdered my whole face (just the areas I highlight with concealer) so I don't have a recommendation for a full face powder but I know that MAC mineralise skin finishes and the Hello Flawless Powder by Benefit are both meant to be very good.

Bronzer
NARS Laguna is definitely my favourite bronzer of the year. I just have the sample size but I love it.

In terms of contouring I like a slightly more taupey colour for bronzer as it looks more like a genuine shadow rather than a sun kissed look. So I am currently using the colour Fawn from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit.

It works a dream!

Blush
My favourite blush this year has been Hot Mama by the Balm. It is a pinky peach shade which goes with nearly every look.

In terms of ones I want to try in 2015 - Madly by NARS is on my list!

Highlighter
My favourite highlighter of the year is the Estee Lauder Illuminating Powder Gelee in Heat Wave.

I think it was limited edition so I'm not sure whether it is still available I'm afraid.

Brows
The only product I ever reach for in terms of brows is my Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade. It is waterproof and stays all day! No smudgy brows here!

I then use the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper Gel which is cheap and works amazingly to set your brows in place all day long!

Eyeliner
As I think I've said before...I'm not really into eyeliner. I don't go for a big wing, but I have got quite into using the Colorsport brown eyeliner.....

It is easy to work with and stays put, plus having it in brown gives a more subtle look.

Mascara
I am in love with the L'Oreal Telescopic mascara. It is just so good. The wand is small thing and plastic and seperates every single lash.

If you go out and buy one thing - make it this.

Lipliner
My  favourite nude lipliner of the year is the L'Oreal Contour Parfait in Honey. It gives a natural look and I love the matte finish. I often just wear it alone!
In terms of colour my favourite lipliner is MAC Brick which is a deep matte red.

Lipstick
My favourite nude lipstick of the year has got to be the Matte Me liquid lipstick in Birthday Suit by Sleek.

My favourite coloured lipstick is Dare You by MAC it goes perfectly with MAC Brick.

Palette
The best palette of the year (if not all time) is the NAKED 1 Palette from Urban Decay.

The shadows are so pigmented, blend easily and you can create anyyyy look you want.
I just love it!

  3. Great review! A lot of the products you mention are on my wish list. I've been wanting to try a new concealer. Right now I'm using Benefit's Fake Up. It's nice because it is very moisturizing, but it does leave creases under my eyes.

    1. I really like the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Another one I use is the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer which is also really good if you want a cheaper option! x
