You Beauty Advent Calendar 2014! Days 1-5

Thursday, 4 December 2014

A few weeks ago the doorbell rang at work, so I went to answer it and was very surprised to see the large box the courier was holding was for me!!

The only thing I've ever been sent to work is flowers and this certainly wasn't flowers!

I opened it and to my DELIGHT it was a Beauty Advent Calendar!

My mum had ordered it for me to make up for the fact that she forgot to get me a chocolate one last year...I think she's forgiven now!

The Advent Calendar is made by You Beauty and is huge!

It opens up and has a little door for everyday just like a normal calendar!

1st December

I was so excited for the 1st December! A booklet came with the Advent Calendar saying what kind of brands were enclosed behind the doors, but I didn't want to look at it in case it gave away what I was going to get!

On Day 1 I was not disappointed!

Each door peels off completely and has a little message behind it.

Perfectly wrapped up was a (quite large) little gift!

It was the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser complete with muslin cloth!

My bestie Jess uses all of the Liz Earle products and has for years. The smell reminds me of her!
Whenever I'm at Jess' house or she's at mine I get to use her cleanser and I am really impressed with it.

I was meaning to buy this cleanser about two months ago, but I bought a Philosophy one in New York instead so couldn't justify buying two.

Now I get one all of my own!

This is 30ml and retails for £8
I bet you I will want the big size one after using this all up too!

UPDATE:
I used this on the evenings of 1st  and 2nd December to take off my makeup and I LOVEEEE ittttt!

2nd December

I got called into a meeting as soon as I got to work so couldn't open my Calendar straight away but when I did I was again thrilled with the product!

I've kept my Advent Calendar at work for the time being as it is quite bulky to carry and I am at work more than I am at home!

On the 2nd December I opened the little door to see....

The Laura Mercier Foundation Primer!

Literally yesterday (the 1st December) I was reading about this online and ordered a free sample!

It is 30ml of the product which is actually pretty big. My smashbox primer I have at home is 15ml and my baby skin one from Maybelline is 22ml! So although this isn't the full Laura Mercier size (their full product is 50ml) it is still pretty big.
It retails for about £12!

UPDATE
I used it on the mornings of 3rd and 4th December.
The first thing I noticed was that it isn't siliconey at all. Both my Baby Skin and Smashbox Photofinish ones are.

It feels really nice to rub into your skin and your skin just feels normal afterwards, not shiney or tacky at all.

I sometimes feel like silicone based primers mean the foundation can slide around.

My foundation lasted all day so it certainly works!

3rd December

On the 3rd December I opened my Advent Calendar to see a Molton Brown bottle peeking out.

I really like Molton Brown products, but I've only ever really used the handwash and handcream as my Mum has it at home.

This is a body wash which smells of Orange and Bergamot

It smells Christmassy to me, so although I'm not sure what Bergamot is I think its something Christmassy?

Lets ask google...
The Bergamot orange is a fragrant fruit the size of an orange, with a yellow colour similar to a lemon.

Ok so lets say it is Christmassy as you put organges in mulled wine!

I haven't tried it yet!

4th December

On Day four the door was this shape....

The shape of nail varnish :)

Essie is one of my favourite brands of nail varnish...in fact I think it is my favourite!

This polish is very glittery and has a kind of confetti in it...that is the one way I can describe it!

It is called Peak Of Chic and is valued at £9.99 on Boots.
This is a full sized product.

I haven't tried it yet, because as you can see my nails are Christmassy!
When I need to redo them I will give this a go. Maybe over white with it over red on my ring finger.

In case you are interested - here are my current nails which I will blog about soon:

5th December

I was naughty - I actually opened this on 4th December (in the afternoon) as I had the day off on Friday 5th and my Calendar is at work!

Behind the little door was a body moisturiser by Caudalie...who I have never heard of.

Has anyone ever heard of them? Comment below if you have!

This moisturiser smells really nice...there is no description for the smell on the tube or actually any note of what smell it is!

I have googled it and 250ml sells for £20...so lets say this is worth £4?

The website describes it as:

Full of highly nutritious active ingredients, the Nourishing Body Lotion immediately moisturizes your skin with a long-lasting effect so that it regains its softness and elasticity. The grape Polyphenols prevents premature ageing of the skin and ginkgo biloba activates micro-circulation. Your skin is firmer, radiant, protected and energized. Its creamy texture is very quickly absorbed to leave a delicately fragranced velvety sheen on your skin.

Still no description of the smell - I will do my best...
It is slightly cinnamony and smells like a spa?

I asked my friend Oli what it smells of and he said "it smells of money" LOL!
Apparently that means it smells like all the wonderful things smell like - Chanel No5 and posh women who wear pearls...like class.
I will agree with that it smells like money...

I am really looking forward to the rest of the Calendar which I will update you in other posts!
