First trip to NYC!

Tuesday, 30 September 2014

I'm off to New York in four days on an impromptu work trip!

I only got told a week ago that I was going and I've never been before so I made a list (with the help of some friends) of all the things I want to do.

Keep an eye out for my NYC blogs! I am going on my own so I will probably have plenty of time to blog about what I've been up to in any free time that I do get there!

Here are the things I want to do. If anyone has any suggestions then please please let me know!

I wanted to go up the Empire State Building but I kind of think it is a thing you do as a couple (my friends told me off for saying that!!) but I just think I might save it for when I go with another person (friend or otherwise). I was also told that going up the Rockefeller Center is much better as you get a view of the Empire State Building! So I'm going to do that :)

Just look at that gorgeous view!

The next thing I want to do. As per the above picture is go to Central Park! Apparently there is a cute cafe in the middle of the lake called the Loeb Boathouse. I definitely want to go there.
I think its where they sit in the film 27 Dresses? Not sure! Yes - I just googled it, it is!

Next I want to walk along The Highline. It used to be an elevated railway line and is now a park in the Upper West Side. How cool is that:

It is also really near Carrie Bradshaw's actual apartment (the one they used for filming). So I want to stand outside her apartment and have a picture...not sure who I will ask to take pictures of me! I may need a selfie stick!

Next I want to go on the Staten Island Ferry so that I can see the Statue of Liberty. This is apparently free!

To keep up the Sex and the City theme, I want to go to the Magnolia Bakery and eat a cupcake and also the NY Public Library to see where Carrie nearly married Big!

I want to go to Tiffany's on Fifth Avenue and then all the big shops: Sephora, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Saks

I also want to go shopping at Century 21 which sells designer brands at cut prices. Very nice :)

Next I want to see a Broadway Show. I feel like that is something I can do on my own in the evening, when I'm not going to be working and will have a bit of time. I've seen Wicked a few times before but I bet its really good in New York! I'm just going to go to a ticket booth on the day and see what is cheap. Apparently the TKTS booth on South Street Sea Port is really quiet and you don't have to queue. Whereas the Times Square one is really busy.

Obviously I need to see Times Square though and the Naked Cowboy!

Ellen's Musical Diner has aspiring broadway stars as the staff, and they sing to you whilst you eat. Just like in Glee! I am a big Glee fan so I am deffo going here for a meal.

What next. I want to go the HBO shop and get a Game of Thrones phone case!

Ground Zero is probably also a must, but I imagine it would be quite sad and eerie on your own. I can't not go though.

On a more positive note, I want to go to the big red LOVE sign - and again awkwardly have some random take a pic of me!

I want to go to 90 Bedford Street too and see the building from Friends!

And go to this shop!
The Elvis sounds like a bit of me!
Yum YUM! If anyone has any other recommendations please let me know!!

Get Ready With Me - Maroon edition!

Monday, 29 September 2014

My friend Daisy and I had planned a night out at Bodo Schloss, so I took a few pictures for a great ready with me blog.

I planned the whole thing around this top:

Now the issue is - Saturday morning on Instagram I saw three other people who wore this top out on Friday night. I picked three different ways to style it, so this might help if you have something other people do too!
1. Pair it with maroon coloured disco pants. This looked pretty cool and I will wear it out another day, but Daisy said that it made the top less of a statement.
2. Wear it with a longish black skirt. But the rule is legs or boobs so I didn't go with that one.
3. Pair it with black disco pants. This is what I ended up doing as it made the top the statement piece of the outfit.

Now, makeup. I wanted to do a red maroon coloured smokey eye and I must say that I thought it looked awesomeee. Deffo something I will do again.

I started with my base:
The same as usual, smashbox primer, L'Oreal inflallible foundation, bobbi brown concealer, Maybelline highlighter and then I mixed things up and used my cream bronzer by Chanel.

I then used Fergie Wet and Wild powder under my eyes, my new Sleek rose gold blush, my Sleek contour kit and my Estee Lauder highlighter.

I then moved onto the eyes which are the main bit!
I used the Sleek Storm palette below:

I used the matte light brown colour (top row third from the left) as my transition shade and using a fluffy brush put that in my crease. A transition shade is good as you can buff other colours into it. I then applied the pinky shade (top row second from the right) all over my eyelid. I then used the dark maroon (top right) in my crease and smudged that up. I used the lightest shade (top row second from the right) on my browbone and also in my tear duct. I smudged the maroon colour under my lower lashes too and darkened this area and the top lash line with the black eyeshadow rather than an eyeliner.
This wasn't red enough for me though :(
So I borrowed Daisy's palette below (sorry for the terrible picture) and put the reddy shade all over my lid. That was the pop of colour I was looking for so I will have to find a similar shade somewhere.

It looked so cool!
I then added Kimberly Eyelure Girls Aloud lashes and lined my waterline with eyeliner.
And the eyemakeup is done!

I then picked my outfit whilst Daisy did her hair and decided how I wanted my hair. Daisy is amazing at doing hair so whenever we go out I rope her into doing mine!

I went for big curls

I literally felt like a mermaid. We used my Foxy Locks extensions and straightened with GHDs.

 Thank you Daisyyyy.

Then it was time for lips!
Matte Me in birthday suit which I LOVE

And I was readyyy.
Excuse the fact that my hair is blocking the light and therefore highlighting my tummy terribly! If my tummy looked like that I would not wear a crop top!

Time to partyyyy

Check out that girl with the headband hating!
Haters gonna hate!

Sleek Makeup Haul

Saturday, 27 September 2014

On my way home from work on Friday I popped into Boots to get some face wipes...obviously I didn't just get face wipes oops!

Boots have a deal on at the moment which is buy one get one half price on Sleek makeup. I only heard about Sleek a couple of months ago as my friend Jess has one of their blush palettes.

I already have their contour palette which is literally one of my faveee things so I am a big fan of the brand.

Here are the bits that I picked up:

I got an I-Divine Palette in the colours Storm.
A blush in the colour Rose Gold
A Matte Me lip colour in Birthday Suit
And a lip pencil in Red Sky Night

Let's start with the blush. I've heard a lot about this colour as it is a dupe for NARS Orgasm.

It is the most beautiful blush. Rose gold is a really appropriate name for it because that is just how I would describe it.
It is really pigmented too so you don't need much on your brush.
£4.49 compared to NARS at £20

Next is the eyeshadow palette in Storm

I like that the packaging is simple but it is quite hard to open which I don't like
:( I chipped my nail

I also don't like that the colour names aren't on the packaging, as I will probably lose this little piece of plastic.

The main reason I bought this palette was for the colour Firestorm (top right) I wanted to try a marooney coloured smokey eye.

Another thing I don't really love is the spongey brush thingy. A regular brush would be so much more useful.
I feel like Sleek could improve their packaging design a bit.

However the actual product I really like.
 Here are the colours swatched:

Most of the colours are shimmery, but there are a couple of matte brown shades and the black is matte.

Before you start any kind of smokey eye makeup it is good to put a matte brown transition shade in your crease. It gives you something to blend the colours into and means you don't have a harsh line.

So I like that there are some matte brown colours in this palette.

Next I got a lip pencil. The thing is they don't do testers for the lip or eye pencils.
So looking at this pencil you would thing it was a nude pink.

Not a Barbie pink which it is! So I probably wouldn't have bought this if I'd known what colour it was.
Next to the lip pencil swatch is a swatch of this matte me lip cream:

Now the applicator for this is quite long and straight and isn't the best to be honest, but the product is great!

It is really matte and such a nice colour.
Plus it doesn't transfer!

LOVE it!!!!

Overall Sleek products are really good and really cheap, however their packaging could use a bit of work!

Because of the deal at Boots I got everything so cheap!
I put two products through the till at a time, so I put the two most expensive ones together as you save more money that way.
Love a bargain!
